LGBT Foundation

What is the LGBT Foundation?

The LGBT Foundation is a UK-based charity dedicated to supporting the needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. They offer a wide range of services, including health and wellbeing programmes, support groups, and advocacy initiatives, aiming to promote equality and provide resources for LGBT individuals.

How can they help?

For members of the LGBT community seeking sobriety support, the LGBT Foundation provides specialised services tailored to address substance use challenges. Their Recovery Programme is designed for LGBTQ+ individuals affected by drugs, alcohol, and chemsex. This programme offers personalised support to help individuals achieve their recovery goals, recognising that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to sobriety.

The Foundation collaborates with partners such as Change Grow Live in Manchester and various organisations in Liverpool to ensure access to structured and medical support. Whether you are looking for one-to-one support, group sessions, or harm reduction advice, they have a range of resources available.

What support groups do they offer?

Here and Now – LGBT+ recovery group

This peer-led mutual aid group provides a safe and non-judgemental space for LGBT+ individuals to come together and share their experiences around addiction and recovery. The group welcomes people at all stages of their journey, whether you are considering sobriety, newly sober, or in long-term recovery.

  • When? Every Tuesday at 6 PM
  • Where? LGBT Foundation, 2nd Floor, Fairburn House, Sackville Street, M1 3NJ
  • Who is it for? Any LGBT+ person affected by alcohol, drugs, or chemsex who wants a supportive community.

This group focuses on open discussion and shared lived experiences, rather than structured therapy. You can attend as often as you like, and there is no pressure to share if you prefer to listen.

Contact the LGBT Foundation for more information.

Chemsafe – Chemsex support group

The Chemsafe support group is designed specifically for LGBT+ individuals who have been affected by chemsex (the use of drugs during sex). The group offers a non-judgemental, harm reduction-focused approach, providing a space for people to discuss:

  • The impact of chemsex on mental and physical health
  • Strategies for reducing or stopping drug use
  • Safer sex and harm reduction techniques
  • How to build supportive networks for recovery

This group is confidential, and you can attend as often as you feel comfortable. It is an ideal space for those wanting practical guidance and peer support.

One-to-one recovery support

If you prefer private and personalised support, the LGBT Foundation also offers one-to-one recovery support sessions. These sessions are tailored to your individual needs and can include:

  • Support with setting recovery goals
  • Referrals to specialist addiction services
  • Emotional support and guidance

You can book a session by contacting the LGBT Foundation directly.
